TESTIMONIAL FOR JENKINS DEVELOPMENTS LTDJenkins Developments Ltd (JDL) was recommended to us by our architect. Along with two other building contractors, JDL visited the site and immediately it was clear to us that they were a family-run, not-too-small and not-too-big company and that they were exactly what we wanted. There was an immediate rapport struck up between Matt Jenkins the MD and us during that first visit. Compared to the others, he listened, commented, advised and then submitted, on time, the best quote. Selecting JDL was a no-brainer.Matt and his sister, Sarah, run the company and between them, do a brilliant job. They told us that building our new home, in the garden of our old home, would take 52 weeks – and it did. We did not use a Project Manager, but I worked closely with Matt and Sarah throughout and we brought the project in on time and on budget. My daily, on-site involvement ensured we knew exactly what was going on, established a good working relationship with all the trades and, I think, helped keep everything on track. Answering queries, which inevitably pop up all the time, quickly, is essential. We attempted to minimise changes to the plan, but where we did add a couple of extras, the costing for these was totally transparent. It may sound unusual, but we quickly learnt we could trust JDL and I hope they felt they trusted us. We kept ahead of the programme by completing detailed tasks and plans before they were needed by the building teams. All of the tradesmen that JDL used were excellent; none of them wandered off onto other jobs when they should have been with us. JDL invoiced us monthly in arrears (no deposits were requested) following a detailed interim valuation; and we returned this trust by paying each invoice promptly. Any queries re invoicing were answered fully and openly. We based the build on a JCT contract, which is simple, but gave each party sufficient protection. It was ideal and kept costs down.So what have we learnt? Finding the right building company to partner with for a building project is essential and it is, of course, difficult to get this 100% right. But taking references and visiting their current projects, before you decide, will definitely minimise making the wrong choice. Our advice to anyone contemplating a new build, or substantial extension, is to engage with a company such as JDL, and their tradesmen, before agreeing your architect’s plans and seeking building consent. There is no doubt we could have saved tens of thousands of £ if we had done this. Architects, as essential as they are, do not, in my view, always have your best interests at heart. Try and get the people who you hope will build your home to get involved from the start.In summary, we would highly recommend Jenkins Developments Ltd to anyone contemplating a building project.Jules and Sally SnellJune 2025 – June 2026

We feel very privileged to have worked with such a fantastic team with Jenkins Development for our new house build. From the initial scoping meeting, through costings and contract negotiation and then build, Matt and Sarah and their team have maintained professionalism throughout while still being a human voice at the end of the phone line. Both employed and sub-contracted trades were of really high standard and totally reliable and trustworthy. They kept us up to date with progress and talked through any deviations from initial scope coming up with pragmatic solutions in partnership with us. All the employed and sub-contracted trades were of an excellent standard and reliable. They were well prepared and clearly had a trusted relationship with Matt and Phil who had everything available to support them with materials and advice where needed.
